BOCA tried an experiment out. We did our first ever Work Away. We all flew to Austin, Texas to come together as a team. We've worked during the day and played during the night.
I am so proud of the team for successfully servicing our clients when there is the wonderful temptation of great food all around us. And, of course, the famous Texan Margarita.
One of our values are authenticity. We live and breathe through our "authenticity, creativity, passion and trust."
Authenticity: what you see is what you get. An amazing smart team that works hard.
Creativity: I am blown away by the video that the Quorum team developed for the "always be testing" campaign.
Passion: I love PR. I love what I do for a living. I love my employees. And, I "love to love" our clients.
Trust: Trust is where every thing starts. I trust that our clients know we are working hard during our first ever Work Away.

Oy Vay...we finally have a Website
Our New Site Arrived...
When I first founded BOCA, my intent for the company was very different. The first-ever Website we had, represented an old BOCA - not the new, amazing, cool, fabulous company we are today.
I look back over the past four years and I am so happy that I changed course six months into my company launch. BOCA has amazing employees and clients that I am so proud of. The work our team delivers on behalf of our clients is truly amazing.
Today alone, a huge, fat TechCrunch article hit for DataStax. Kellner - thank you for making that happen. Wilson - did you really lock in the WSJ for Article One - of course you did. CrowdSupply Team -- Sammy, Colin, Aimee, Katie, Lucas and Ashley - did we really secure more than 25 articles day of launch - ranging from Wired to TechCrunch, PandoDaily and beyond - go team...go BOCA!

Taking the Road Less Traveled
By Aimee Rancer
The job title "Public Relations" gets a lot of flak. Labeled
by CareerCast as one the most
stressful jobs in the workforce at the moment, some people ask
"are you out of your mind for working in PR" or think we're
constantly pulling out our hair.
While the stress is a reality (minus the hair pulling...thankfully!), I think
back to the reasons why my colleagues and I got into the PR field. We knew that
we had a knack for communication, a passion for branding, and talents when it
came to relaying information. With the high stakes, competitive results-driven
atmosphere where clients expect the best, we’re there for the council and
communication they need to thrive, not just survive.
BOCA has a few "brand" words we like to use as cornerstones when
describing the vibe of our agency:
•
Authentic
•
Creative
•
Passionate
•
Savvy
As with all of the members of BOCA, I truly am passionate about the work I do. I believe that in order to really, understand how to best advise our clients on strategy and messaging, I have to first truly sink my teeth into their technology and space. We have a wide range of clients, from those that work in the Cloud to those that deal with the components of our everyday handheld electronics. Every day, I research, read, absorb and learn. All of the growing technology and new ideas that I get to learn about makes me thankful to be in Silicon Valley more than ever.
And I’m still thirsty for more.

BOCA Blog - Bringing it Back (And, Austin - Here we Come)
Wow...after many years of going dark on the BOCA Blog - I've decided to bring it back...yay!
I can't believe how much my company has changed...as I always say...I started out on the living room floor with a couple of contractors. One day I decided to hire my first W2 and offer medical plus dental. We got an office in North Beach. And, this year we are rolling out 401K.
We are also going on our first-ever "Work Away," meaning the entire SF team (those that want to go) will be heading to Austin, Texas. The BOCA group - now 15 of us - will be working away and enjoying the technology community of Austin, Texas.
Why Austin? We formally opened an Austin office about six months ago. We have a few clients with aspirations for more. The team is so excited. I am so excited. Go Austin. (And, we are hiring in Austin.)
Yay for Blog and Yay for Austin...more blogging to come.

Cyber Security Awareness Campaign - Thought Leadership
BOCA Communications is proud of the recent thought leadership initiatives we spearheaded for Narus (www.narus.com) around a national trend: National Cyber Security Awareness Month in October.
Narus partnered with Converge Network Digest (www.convergedigest.com ) and GSN: Government Security News (www.gsnmagazine.com ) to create a survey that queried a cross-section of security professionals in a variety of industries. Using their audience as well as Narus clients we acquired opinions about security in relation to government entities and the telecom sector.
The findings were compelling. An astounding 71 percent of respondents are concerned that their company is not equipped to protect itself from cyber-attacks and approximately 88 percent think the government is not equipped to protect itself thus proving that security is a popular concern.
Upon completion of the survey, we packaged the results into a formal report and linked all our outbound communication to National Cyber Security Awareness Month.
BOCA used a blend of old fashion and social PR mediums to communicate the results to pundits that matter. We developed a dedicated landing page that highlighted the survey findings, leveraged Twitter and Facebook and also incorporated an old school mail out campaign complete with USB drives that housed the Cyber Security report, press release and letter from Narus marketing. The outcome was a success.

Verbal Musicality in the Workplace
After spending years of my life studying classical music and jazz and eventually transitioning into public relations, there is a parallel I can now draw between inspired creativity in music and in the workplace. One of the most rewarding aspects of being a PR practitioner is identifying creative story ideas that we can then bring to the media. However, how do you get to the point where you can improvise words (story angles) as Mile Davis does notes on the trumpet?
I think the key is to make sure that you first understand the “fundamentals” of your client in the same manner that musicians must first master the fundamentals of playing their instruments. You can’t write a symphony without first knowing all the notes as well as some basic musical theory. When I studied jazz, we had to begin by learning scale progressions, from which we could later improvise. By the same token, when we begin work with a new client, the first thing we try to do is get to know as much about the company as possible. It’s from these often casual conversations that we are able later piece together interesting story ideas. If you know, and understand your clients like a musician knows the scales of an instrument, you can pick the right notes/words to create your own “symphony!”
